Is muscle stretching only for elite athletes and Yogi's who can put both feet behind their heads with ease?

Everybody has muscles whether you can see them bulging out or they are well insulated.  It may then benefit everybody to occasionally stretch them - ask your body first though!

Flexibility is different for everybody.  It took me 30yrs to be able to comfortably touch my toes at any time of the day.  A bit of Bikram Yoga helped with this.  I thoroughly recommend stretching with warm muscles, it is easier on your muscles.  What ever you do with stretching, do it gently, repeat the stretch 3 times,and go deeper each time.

 Some of the benefits include:

  • less muscular soreness after exercise

  • more freedom in your joints and body

  • quicker recover from over exertion

Maybe a little more flexible thinking may add to your body becoming more flexible?
